School Direct Initial Teacher Training Programme (Tuition Fee)
Initial Teacher Training through the School Direct Tuition Fee Programme
As a lead school for School Direct, Avenue Primary Academy works in partnership with the University of Roehampton (a Strategic Partner) to provide accredited places for ITT through the School Direct (Tuition Fee) programme.
The lead school is the commissioner of School Direct places. All places lead to qualified teacher status (QTS) and a PGCE (Master level).
Applicants will hold an Honours degree (preferably at 2:1 and above) awarded in the UK, or the equivalent awarded by an approved university outside the UK, or an acceptable equivalent qualification.
It is a requirement that all those training to teach must have achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject (or approved equivalents). Please note that we will only consider applicants who have already achieved two out of the three GCSEs (or approved equivalents) prior to submitting their application.
September 2021 intake
We have 15 places for the School Direct Tuition Fee route on offer as the lead school in partnership with the University of Roehampton for 2020-2021. Successful candidates will be placed in one of the academies or schools within our partnership. Places are for the tuition fee (non-salaried) route. Trainees will be required to pay tuition fees of £9,250 to University of Roehampton.
As for 2019-2020, we will be offering the Alliance Route for training, which involves some training sessions held at Avenue Primary Academy or one of our partner schools. School Direct provides trainees with the opportunity to be based in a specific class at a host school working in partnership with the class teacher, with weekly training sessions being held at the university or lead school. Trainees will specialise in either the 3-7 age range or the 5-11 age range and will be placed in a second school for their first Block School Experience, in a consecutive age range/phase to their host school. As we offer the General Primary programme, all trainees will be required to spend a proportion of their training in the key stage they do not carry out an assessed placement in.
