School Direct Initial Teacher Training Programme (Tuition Fee)
Initial Teacher Training through the School Direct Tuition Fee Programme
Similar to the teaching hospital model, the Teaching School trains current and future generations of teachers while also providing an excellent education experience for the pupils in the school. Other schools in the Alliance continue to support ITT through having student placements in their schools.
The Teaching School works in partnership with University of Roehampton (a Strategic Partner) to provide accredited places for ITT. This does not stop individual schools within the Alliance, or the Teaching School, working with other ITT providers.
The Teaching School is the commissioner of School Direct places. The Teaching Agency allocates places direct to the Teaching School, and we decide how the ITT programme should be delivered in partnership with our accredited providers. All places lead to qualified teacher status (QTS), although there is an option to gain a PGCE (Master level).
September 2020 intake
We have 15 places for the School Direct Tuition Fee route on offer as the lead school in partnership with the University of Roehampton for 2020-2021. Successful candidates will be placed in one of the academies or schools within our partnership. Places are for the tuition fee (non-salaried) route. Trainees will be required to pay tuition fees of £9,250 to University of Roehampton.
As for 2019-2020, we will be offering the Alliance Route for training, which involves some training sessions held at Avenue Primary Academy or one of our partner schools. School Direct provides trainees with the opportunity to be based in a specific class at a host school working in partnership with the class teacher, with weekly training sessions being held at the university or lead school. Trainees will specialise in either the 3-7 age range or the 5-11 age range and will be placed in a second school for their first Block School Experience, in a consecutive age range/phase to their host school. As we offer the General Primary programme, all trainees will be required to spend a proportion of their training in the key stage they do not carry out an assessed placement in.

We selected University of Roehampton as our accredited ITT provider because they offer PGCE and masters level credits, in addition to the normal QTS.
