Year 5 Learning Journey

Week beginning: 29/3/2021

History/English/Science/D.T.

Please bring in a cardboard box and any cardboard tubes for our D.T.

I can edit my biography about the life of King Henry VIII (History/English).

I can investigate how a pulley and lever work (Science).

I can design, make and evaluate a Tudor palace with a working drawbridge (D.T.).

 

Maths 

I can read scales and calculate intervals for grams and kilograms.  

I can solve problems involving weight. 

I can convert between metric and imperial units of measure and vice versa.

 

Next half term, our focus will be 'Circle of Life' which is a science unit, please can the children bring in a baby photo with their name on the back, for Monday 19th April 2021. Have a lovely Easter holiday!

In week 6 (w.b. 29.3.21) we will be creating a Tudor Palace, with a working drawbridge, so it would be great if your child can begin bringing in any old boxes/toilet roll tubes or other recyclable materials.

We are excited to welcome you all back on Tuesday 9th March. Our first week back in school will have a health and wellbeing focus, in particular on the zones of regulation. We will also be continuing our 'Tudors and Us' topic, with a history and geography focus. 

 Hook activity - the children will be taking part in a deep dive into the life of the Tudors (history).

We will be starting our new topic the first week back after Christmas which will be 'Lost in Space'. This topic is science based and we will also be linking our English, art and D.T. to it.

This half term our Health and Wellbeing focus is caring friendships, including online relationships. This is part of the social strand of Health and Wellbeing.

We will be learning about how important friendships are in making us feel happy and secure, and how people choose and make friends; the characteristics of friendships; how to recognise who to trust and who not to trust; how to judge when a friendship is making them feel unhappy or uncomfortable, managing conflict; how to manage these situations and how to seek help or advice from others, if needed. We will also be re-capping the rules and principles for keeping safe online, including how to recognise risks, harmful content and contact, and how to report them.

 

We will be teaching the following skills: To begin to recognise the characteristics of friendships, including mutual respect, truthfulness, trustworthiness, loyalty, trust, sharing interests and experiences and support with problems and difficulties; to know how to seek help if a friendship is making them feel unhappy or uncomfortable and critically consider their online friendships and sources of information including awareness of the risks associated with people they have never met. 

Year 5: This half – term in French, children will learn how to describe the weather, how to talk about their daily routine using the time and they will find out about French Christmas traditions.
