Spring Term
We hope that you had an enjoyable winter break. Although this is not the start to therm we would have liked, we will do all we can to ensure the children have a half term full of successful learning.
Phonics
This term we will begin learning the Phase 3 phonics sounds. Phase 3 contains many digraphs that are often found in words. The children will practise blending words containing the new sounds in order to read new words as well as segmenting to write them. There will also be new tricky words to learn.
Topic
This half term our topic will be ‘Our World’ with a focus on the local community and countries from around the world. This will give opportunities for the children to learn about where they live and compare this to different countries in the world. We will explore weather, flags, food, animals and plants from different countries. The children will also be encouraged to share their experiences of places they have visited on holidays and other experiences of different countries via Tapestry.
Mathematics
This half term we will continue with our focus on numbers to 10. We will recap counting and emphasise counting groups of objects with accuracy. The children will practise finding one more and one less of a given number using a range of objects. We will then use this knowledge to help us add and subtract simple amounts. We will also introduce money, where the children will explore different coins and their amounts.

Diwali
Last week, we listened to an assembly about the Hindu festival of Diwali. During the assembly, we heard the story of Rama and Sita, which symbolises the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. We learnt how Hindus celebrate Diwali, for example, lighting diva lamps and candles in homes, firework displays and special gatherings with friends and family. Although this year celebrations will have been be different, we hope that our families celebrating Diwali enjoyed the festive season.
Please copy and paste the link below to view the assembly produced for Avenue, narrated by Nabhi.
